US Green Building Council adapts LEED certification for European projects

The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has relaxed its LEED certification and announced Alternative Compliance Paths or APCs for European projects applying to the scheme.

In partnership with its European member network, the USGBC will create new options that allow European projects to earn LEED points. These changes will apply to existing buildings (LEED Existing Buildings and Operations Maintenance” EBOM).

The aim of this decision is to strengthen the reputation and recognition of LEED certification, particularly in instances of “cross-certification” when a real estate project is subject to a number of national and international certifications. At present, there is still no equivalence defined for the various criteria used by each certification.

A similar approach is soon to be announced for Asia and South America.
